At KNIPEX, we attach great importance to ensuring that our pliers are not only functional, but also ergonomic and easy to use. Choosing the right handle plays a decisive role here. In this blog post, we would like to give you an overview of the different handle variants that we offer: from no handle sleeves at all to non-slip plastic handles to insulated and VDE-tested handles to the new Comfort Handles with three components and ESD sleeves.
We also offer the classic all-metal version without a plastic sleeve for concreters' nippers, for example. This version allows the hand to slide along the pliers handle, which is particularly advantageous when moving from gripping to twisting and clamping and finally to cutting in a single operation. Our XS versions of the Cobra and pliers wrench are also only available in this version.
The plastic coatings are manufactured using a dipping process and offer a non-slip and pleasant feel. These handles protect hands from extreme temperatures by avoiding direct contact with the bare steel. Depending on requirements, the dipped handles can be smooth or textured. The smooth handle version is easier to clean and therefore particularly suitable for applications where things can get dirty quickly. The textured version remains particularly reliable in the hand even if you have oily fingers. The plastic coated handles are ideal for applications where a secure grip is required without the need for additional insulation.
Our latest Comfort Handles set new standards in terms of ergonomics, customisation and comfort. Like our red and blue two-component handles, which are currently being gradually replaced by the Comfort Handles, these handles significantly increase the contact surface with the hand, which significantly reduces the risk of blistering and pressure points. They are particularly suitable for users who use their pliers frequently and with great manual force. The Comfort Handles combine soft and hard plastics to provide an optimum balance between comfort and grip. Thanks to the KNIPEXtend interface, they are also designed to be supplemented with our TetheredTools or ColourCode clips, for example. This means that nothing stands in the way of personalising the pliers. The handle sleeves also have a labelling field on the inside. 3D printing fans can also print their own extensions for the interface. Find out more here.
We offer insulated handles, often referred to as VDE* sleeves, for working on electrical systems. These handles are designed not to conduct electricity and therefore offer protection when gripping electrically live components with the pliers head. In addition, their collar is wider than all other handle variants so that you do not touch the pliers head when working. These pliers are subject to strict norms and safety standards in accordance with DIN EN / IEC 60900. Our VDE handles are available in two different versions: as red and yellow two-component handles and as smooth, red plastic coated handles.

ESD* sleeves, also known as dissipative sleeves, are specially designed for working on sensitive electronic components and are therefore part of our range of electronic pliers. In conjunction with the earthing of the workstation, component and user, they enable controlled equalisation of electrical potential differences between the operator and the components in order to prevent damage caused by electrostatic discharge. These handles are particularly essential in the electronics industry, where even the smallest static discharges can cause considerable damage.
