Topics: KNIPEX 1x1

There are many forged KNIPEX pliers. In addition to the actual basic model and the associated functions, they differ in length, surface and handles, among other things.

We explain how you can tell at a glance what you have in your hands - with our distinctive item numbers!

The first two digits

The first two digits of an item number determine the basic model of a pair of forged pliers. So an 87 is always a KNIPEX Cobra®, an 86 is always a pliers wrench, pliers within the 70 range are always cutting pliers and so on.

The third number

This is where we now start to distinguish between the variants of the basic model. The third digit of an item number says something about the style or shape of a pair of pliers. A 0, for example, reveals that the pliers have a straight shape. The model shown here has the number 2 in position 3, which contains the information that the head of the Stork Beak Pliers is angled. But beware: depending on the model, the third number may contain other information about the shape!

The fourth number

The fourth number of an item number directly contains several pieces of information about the pliers in your hands. It describes the finish, i.e. the head, the surface and the type of handles.

0 = pliers black atramentised, head polished, no handles
1 = head polished, handles with non-slip plastic coating
2 = head polished, (blue-red) multi-component handles
3 = pliers chrome-plated, handles with non-slip plastic coating
4 = pliers chrome-plated, no handles
5 = pliers chrome-plated, (blue-red) multi-component handles
6 = pliers chrome-plated, insulated (red-yellow) multi-component handles, VDE-tested
7 = pliers chrome-plated, insulated (dipped) handles, VDE-tested
8 = atramentised, insulated (red-yellow) multi-component handles, VDE-tested (US only)

The last three digits

The last three digits contain exactly one piece of information: the length of the pliers in millimetres. A pair of pliers whose item number ends in 250 is therefore approx. 250 mm long.

Behind the numbers

If there are letters after the length, they either say something about the type of packaging or they contain information about a possible accessory.

For example:

T = KNIPEX Tethered Tools programme; a fall protection device can be attached to these pliers.
BK = the pliers are supplied in a blister pack

Conclusion

With so many products, it is sometimes difficult to keep track of them all. With our descriptive item numbers, it might be a little easier. With their help, you can see at a glance what kind of pliers, what finish, what shape, what length you are holding in your hands - and also whether a fall protection can be attached or whether the product comes in a certain type of packaging.

Who would have thought that item numbers could contain such a wealth of information? :)

Why don't you try it out and tell us the number of your favourite pair of pliers!
